Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is divided into four distinct gorilla trekking sectors: Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga, and Nkuringo. Due to the rugged terrain roads, it takes 3-5 hours to drive between them
One has to first confirm which sector you booked the permit before traveling to the destination.
Buhoma is the oldest popular sector trekking trailhead located in northern part of the park. It is full of luxury lodges and amenities and many people more so the luxury travelers prefer it compared to other sectors

It is the easiest for trekking due to its lower elevation compared to others and with key gorilla families like mubare, habinyanja and Rushegura. Gorilla trekking is accompanied by other activities in this sector like bird watching, nature walks and community tours with accommodation ranging for budget to luxury
Ruhija is an elevated, pristine region in the eastern part of Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Sitting at over 2,340 meters above sea level, it is famous for its cool climate, dramatic views of the Virunga Volcanoes, less-crowded gorilla tracking experiences, and exceptional birdwatching with gorilla families like bitukura, oruzogo, mukiza and kyaguriro. Lake Bunyonyi is near this sector incase one wishes to visit that deepest water lake in Uganda. It’s called the bird watcher’s paradise due to its higher elevation with a variety of bird species. It is the only sector with Forest elephants

Rushaga. it’s located in southern part of Bwindi impenetrable national park in Kisoro district with the highest number of gorilla families like nshongi, mishaya,kahungye and busingye. Trekking time ranges from 30 minutes and above depending on gorilla location and it’s where one can find batwa cultural experience.

Nkuringo. This is located in southern highlands of Uganda famous for its habituated gorilla families like Bushaho and Christmas and offers exceptional forest hikes and Batwa cultural experiences and the panoramic views of Virunga hills. It is a home of peaceful habituated nkuringo gorilla family, the energetic troop of about 14 members led by the silverback Rwamutwe
